Thomson Dialog is looking for contractor to work in their Cary, NC offices 
for a minimum 6 month assignment.  The opening is for an Ontology QA 
Specialist, a sort of blend of IA/Ontology skills and QA.  Pay is dependent 
upon skills and experience, likely to be in the $40-$60/hour range.  Please

Ontology QA Position

Description
*Develop and manage automated, semi-automated and manual quality 
assurance/quality control (QA/QC) processes to perform quality testing for 
taxonomies/thesauri, authority files, classification and 
extraction.  Design and implement automatic feedback loops to identify 
changes to taxonomy/authority terms and structure.

*Create, maintain and enhance new and existing test plans and 
procedures.  Determine the type and extent of testing necessary.  Maintain 
test documentation.

*Provide clear and consistent reports to Ontology Team and senior management.
*Write and execute SOP's and related Ontology QA documentation.
*Ensure that data integrity issues are identified and proactively addressed 
and that taxonomical assets comply with ANSI/NISO standard Z39.19.

*Ensure work and projects are aligned with business and product priorities.
*Provide general ontology assistance to Thomson Dialog as requested.

Required
*5+ years hands-on QA/QC experience.  3+ years Project Management.  2+ 
years experience creating, implementing and maintaining taxonomies, 
authorities and complex hierarchical structures.

*Knowledge of document classification/extraction processes and ontological 
concepts is essential.
*Extensive knowledge of XML.  Ability to write complex database queries and 
test scripts.
*Knowledge of content and data architectures and their relationship to 
Information Architecture and Knowledge Management practices.

*Strong process orientation and knowledge of the software development life 
cycle.
*Demonstrated ability to think critically and work in a deadline driven, 
fast-paced environment.
*Ability to work in an open office environment.

Desired
*Experience with online database searching.
*Familiarity with Business Information and News content and products.
*Experience with Dialog products and competitors such as Factiva and 
LexisNexis.
*Familiarity with thesaurus management software programs.
*Master's Degree in Information Science.
