The we have found that the development process is changing slightly with
the advent of new tools. A typical process used to be we would get
Photoshop files from the UI designers that would be built into HTML
templates by the UI developers (HTML guys). Then these templates would
be given to the backend developers and their code would be inserted.

We now do a great deal of .NET development and what we have found is
that the HTML templates that the UI Developers produce are only slight
more useful to the backend developers then if we gave them the Photoshop
files. In .NET development we utilize the benefits of using server side
controls so the server writes the HTML based on reading attributes at
run time. This means in order to restore the equilibrium of having UI
developers working on UI they have to become familiar with .NET and it's
server side controls.

That is what the position sounded like to me because I hire people based
on similar requirements. I don't need my UI developers to be designers
but they do need to understand the importance of design so that they can
make informed decisions and changes throughout the development process.
