The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) -
http://www.census.gov/epcd/www/naics.html groups the economy into 20 broad
sectors that cover the topics you mention. 

For other international statistical classifications, general descriptions,
hierarchical structure and explanatory notes see Eurostat's Classifications

Can anyone point me to online thesauri for industry classifications ...
something which at the least covers the broad top level categories like
Agriculture, Arts, Construction, ... Travel, Scientific, Service Industry,
Transportation.
