Below, I'm posting an ad I found for an IA for the NYTimes. Funny that they
used someone other than their own job market to post it, but that's a
different story. I happen to really like this job posting, and thought the
job description is symbolic of what I think is the role and direction of a
little IA position w/o going into other pieces too much in any direction. It
has bredth into functionality (IxD) and usabilty, but it is clearly focused
and structure, navigation, and organization (findability). Besides, if
anyone in NYC is hungry enough for this job, I thought they should know
about it. :)

Information Architect:
NYTimes.com, the leading newspaper website, is seeking an enthusiastic and
versatile Information Architect. Candidates with online media company
experience preferred.

. Research and development of navigation infrastructure and information

. Develop detailed wireframes that incorporate the technical, editorial, and
usability aspects of web design projects
. Research new products and explore technologies that complement the
abilities of humans to add value to information
. Support Director of Information Architecture on a variety of additional
projects
Required Qualifications:
. Creativity, conscientiousness, meticulous attention to detail, and
entrepreneurship
. Excellent project management, communication and problem-solving skills
. Deep understanding of information retrieval and content management
technology
. Schooled in the techniques and technologies of information representation,
web site usability and design, metadata (data modeling, XML)
. Analytical skills, including Excel modeling
. Bachelors degree
. Familiarity with Internet business models
. Three years experience managing information architecture for a high
traffic, database driven, commercial Web company
. Experience working with technical staff and appreciation of the
Engineering process
. Drive to develop new skills
Preferred:
. Graduate degree in information science, library science, human-computer
interaction or similar field
