cost and speed... I know it sounds quite weird ;-) ... but doing SAP
customization, for instance, can be really expensive and take specialized
programming work. The macro approach uses the current user interface - no
need for integration.

Yes, but if you are going to that extent, then why not create a parallel or
alternate front-end (like a wizard) that is much more 'usable' but
effectively dumps the same data to the backend as the broken app?
