Yes, indeed, I was overstating the case for purple. It was more of a 
joke than anything else.

It was sorta a joke in our company. ;)

But there are many cultural things about color. I remember seeing a 
great presentation on i18n by Lycos (then) that was really great and 
they talked about how they even had to change the shape of their dog to 
be more cute for Japan and Korea and add a red scarf to the dog's collar.

i don't know of a public location for this info though.

Also, as in all things, cultures change over time and time seems a lot 
shorter in our world.
