IA Case Studies
Three different IA environments: wireless, advertising, and agriculture.
Our Q&A will be focused on the commonalities and themes we can identify
in each practice.
Speakers:
Maria Moratis, Information Architect (and NYC-CHI Vice Chair): Designing
the user interface of a cell phone application for the first time:
Applying IA principles in a new environment
Sasha Kurtz, Interactive Creative Director at Kirshenbaum Bond +
Partners: The pain of trying to do cool interactive work in the
hard-sell world of advertising and marketing
Steve Ellis, Partner, Change Sciences Group: Cows chickens and pigs! How
we brought together the whole barnyard (using collaborative IA) at the
USDA.
Biographies:
Maria Moratis, Information Architect
Maria Moratis is a User Experience consultant in New York, focusing on
the creation of useful, usable and engaging online experiences. Her
clients include the College Board, Oxygen Media and Novartis
Pharmaceuticals. Prior to working independently, Maria was a Senior
Information Architect at Scient. She has been involved with online
media since 1995 and she is a graduate of New York University's
Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP). Maria is also NYC-CHI's
Vice Chair.
Sasha Kurtz, Dotglu
As Interactive Creative Director at Dotglu (the interactive arm of
advertising's Kirshenbaum Bond + Partners) Sasha brings a boundless
passion for all things digital. Her extensive interactive experience and
love of design play a critical role in helping to fulfill the company
vision of combining cutting edge creativity with superior business
strategy. Prior to joining Dotglu, Sasha worked for more than five years
at R/GA Digital Studios, where she rose from designer to creative
director and gained recognition as one of the pioneers of interactive
design. Her work has been featured in countless publications and has
received more than thirty international design and advertising awards
for clients such as Levi Strauss, IBM, The Discovery Channel and the
Brooklyn Academy of Music. Sasha is a graduate of the Rhode Island
School of Design and teaches interactive design at Parsons in
Manhattan.
Steve Ellis, Change Sciences Group
Before co-founding Change Sciences in 2000, Steve worked on Web projects
for companies such as Becton Dickinson and OfficeSupplies.com. Prior to
this work Steve was on the faculty at the Pennsylvania State University
in its Research Libraries. Steve did an MLS at Rutgers University and
Classics at NYU. He has published on topics related to the sociology of
technology and occasionally teaches at the New School University.
Change Sciences' clients include Citigroup, AIG, Scholastic, GE,
TIAA-CREF and GE.
