Yet IA was coined as a term with a eye to understandability.-- the IA as one
who makes "the complex clear"

I have long thought the three qualities an IA should work toward was
findability, understandability and usability

find the information, understand the information, use the information--
centric, but a range of goals around it. We may have specialists who
concentrate on one aspect of the problem, but most of us need be general and
concentrate on all three.

That is the goal of the specialized information designers... go look through
"that irrelevant" book Information Architects and tell me they aren't truly
IA's working hard, mostly on the problem of promoting understanding.
