While I agree that there are more metrics to measure in IA than, say,
graphic design, it doesn't follow that just because some issue is testable
it's therefore settled. Otherwise, user/usability testing would be
infallible (just as focus studies in marketing or viewer testing in
moviemaking are not). IA/UX/UD/ID/etc can hardly be reduced to quantifiable
scientific processes. However, I agree that the burden of figuring out what
the optimal solution ought to be should not be dumped on the client.
