Nooo. The web actually realized these anomalies early on and went around
them. Google.com with Page Rank. Amazon.com with user reviews. Ebay with
seller ratings. Epinions.com. VersionTracker.com. IMDB.com.  Etc. Some have
been commercially successful others not so. But they are all attempts at
independent filtering, beyond vendor-supplied metadata.
