For everyone's reference - if your main purpose for a domain is a website,
then it's normally a good idea to set up the domain using wildcard DNS,
which means something like *.domainname.com - that way w., ww., www., wwww.,
and everything else will all resolve to the actual domain (as will
domainname.com).

With this configured, you can also go ahead and configure the domain as Eric
suggested - www-old.domainname.com, which will override the wildcard
directive (if you define this "old" one first!) and thus direct users to
that specific place.
