Can't give you a link, since it's secured, but we've had one for years, in
Notes before moving to the web. We allow employees in the office to browse
it unsecured, but require all submissions to use their user id and
password. All submissions are reviewed before being posted, as we've had
cases of abuse. Usually it's people advertising a home business over and
over again, though occasionally we'll get a bogus ad placed as a joke. We
also have a policy banning sales of firearms and illegal merchandise, just
to cover company liability. The review process keeps it from turning into
eBay.
We now post ads to an database, and automatically delete ads after a week
(so they don't stack up). We organize ads into 5 major categories (cars,
homes, miscellaneous, wanted, and Lost & Found), and order the ads with the
newest first. We also highlight the location at the top of the ad since
the ads could come from any of 23 states where we operate.
The only issue we run into is making sure the ads are periodically
reviewed. As long as someone looks at it once a day, it's not a problem.
We've tied this to our employee news section, and it's one of the more
popular items that keeps people looking at the news. It also keeps the
spam out of the e-mail system.

Subject: [Sigia-l] using intranet to sell personal items
Does anyone have any experience or has researched companies that have
online bulletin boards for employees to buy/sell personal items on
company intranets? Links and comments welcome!
