[Sigia-l] RE: Data vs. Information

I question the wisdom of:

data > information > knowledge > wisdom

I know lots of knowledgeable people who aren’t the least wise. And
some of the wisest people I’ve met have never been to school. IMHO,
this is the kind of hype found on corporate websites for KM, CMS,
ERP, CRP tools.

I strongly feel that wisdom results when rationality is shaped by
intuition.

Regarding the semantic difference between data and information, for
me, this is solely a question of perspective. Sometimes data is
information; sometimes information is data. The specific context in
which something is found/used is what makes the difference. I’m not
sure patterns enter into the equation, although Thomas’ remarks have
been interesting.

Regards,
Eric
