I looked at the continuum...useless.
What discipline are we in, anyway people? If we're about anything, aren't we
about human context? I had this discussion with Ziya offline...I'm bringing
it mainstream.
I drew this conclusion 12 years ago, which is why I'm where I am now...it
makes me who I am. Drawing from the RSW, "It isn't INFORMation until it
informs", I drew the conclusion that "Information is data in
recipient-relevant context". That means, that much of the stuff that LIS
people manage is useless data. If it's not relevant to me, I'm not informed.
It was this same subject that I took to the microphone about, incensed, at
the very first IA Summit. If we don't get this one right, we're not going
very far, very fast.
