We have recently been able to do usability testing on our products. I
would say that our recent upgrade product 5.x, has been tested before
production by close to 100 people and more specifically our WCM product
has been tested by about 1/4 that amount. (remember WCM is but one of
many of our product lines). But what is even better is that b/c we now
have a single platform for all of our web-based products, testing on our
Intranet Services Client gives results that reflect on our specific
application like WCM (we call it Web Publihser).
If you compare our 4 line to our 5 line it is like night and day in
usability. We still have a long way to go to get better research done
before we design our product as our research for innovation is far
behind our research for validation. We did do a set of 4 site visits
employing contextual inquiry to some degree or another, but we need a
lot more b/c of the Enterprise level that our customers work in.
>> I would enjoy hearing more stories of CMS deployment from an IA
perspective.
I have created a list for IAs interested in CMS. It is not that active,
but it seems like people are definitely interested in it. You can go to
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ia-cms for more info and to subscribe.
This list is in now way sponsored by or limited to Documentum. I have
been at Documentum for 2 years, I have been interested in IA and CMS for
much longer. ;-)
