[Sigia-l] Needs Analysis

I am out here on Martha's Vineyard, my
first winter on an island.

I found the "locals" to be a wonderful bunch, and I
volunteered (as a retired information scientist)
to help out be several local organizations in their
use
of modern computer technology. Two are Historical
Society
and group trying to set up a kind of electronic
university.

In working up web page (hesitantly launched last
night)
for the "university", I began to realize that the very
creation of a site for an organization like this
forces
it to take a deep look at its missions and needs...

I saw this happening, and I wonder if any of you have
noticed this effect. Also, anyone who is interested
can visit www.nathanmayhew.org

I would appreciate your biting criticism. It was my
first experience with Dreamweaver.

Oh, for any of you who are interested in my progress
in digesting our comments on "Data vs. Information",
I have not given up. I have all the comments in a
full text search engine and am probing for subthemes.
The piece is being set up as a semi-humourous Socratic
dialog among a group of itchy gremlins.

Actually, our conversation has come to the attention
of the
1876th Annual Intergalactic Conference on the Habits
of
Strange Beings. They set up a committee to rake
through
our remarks and make some sense of them.

The committee meeting has begun with a report on the
concept of CONTEXT. If anyone wants to see my
early draft, just sing out.
