<<For all the marketing nonsense about productivity, I am not sure how
this
makes people feel less urgent about answering messages. I avoid instant

messaging as much as possible for that reason. At least you can choose
to
ignore or answer email on your own time.>>

I agree that urgency is cultural and will not be addressed by software.
That being said, the only dif bet an IM and an e-mail is that an e-mail
goes into a box first. IM's can be ignored and if you don't want to be
bothered, just turn on your away sign. Its like people who don't get
cell phones for that reason. Turn the damn thing off, or just plain
don't answer it if it rings. Seems easy to me. I think that's why I like
all these things. It gives me the ability to make a decision about what
I need to be urgent about and what I can leave till later. Caller ID,
buddy names, e-mail addresses w/ subjects ...that's all I really need.
... I do also pre-filter my e-mail too. Lists go there, and work goes
there.

I think I said this on another list, but there is very little in the
reMail that isn't in Outlook 2003 already except for the visualization
stuff and outlook links w/ MSN messenger (and yes there is a corporate
edition of messenger so that you can have presence information directly
in outlook too.
