"...Everytime we get into discussions of 'which tool' or the 'best tool' I think
we forget that it's not the tool but what we can make it do... Sure, a tool
is bad when it comes between what you want it to do..."
=================
In my last company gig, I had a team of IAs (and UX Designers) that used different processes and tools from one office to the other -- N, S, E & W. I was placed in the unenviable position of not only standardizing on a title (it was painful in that circle as well) and coming up with a reusable, to the detail, project process (tip: do not try this at home as it's a complete WASTE of time), but also standardizing on our design/prototyping tools for the company. Weee! That's the fun one can have as a corporate IA in a consultancy.
Anyway. The POINT is that in the end, I began telling IA's, UX'ers or however they referred to themselves, to design using blood on pavement if that was the best way for them to communicate their solutions to the client, our visual designers and client-side developers.
I still feel the same way. If Visio is your blood on the pavement of a Dell, God bless. We can be friends, but you'll never be able to provide me with a transfusion.
