To explain before someone gets confused, I differentiate between (simple)
compression (which can even be entirely automated) and optimization (which
requires somewhat painstaking and iterative fiddling with the whole or
specific parts of an image to make it both look good and reduce file size).
It's the latter I wouldn't do if the beneficiaries of that effort was 2% or
less, according to my web logs.
