There is a lot of overlap & cross-pollination of ideas between analysts
& IAs. Remember, people play roles on a project -- it is OK to have a
single person play a part-time analyst & part-time IA role. Don't
confuse a job title with the role you play on a project. We're all out
to satisfy user & business needs.
Unfortunately, I've seen teams waste resources by having IAs & analysts
work independently because they didn't appreciate the similarities &
differences between the roles. This duplication of effort causes
fighting over who's view is correct & who gets the most access to users
or the client. In those cases the client looses.

Richard,
I would say that it was the other way around... IAs are now cutting into
the
traditional market of BAs :) Which I think is a good thing.
