Chris' objections to usability are much more accurately stated as
"Following dogmatic, guru-based pronouncements about usability isn't enough
to create a good user experience." But that's too long to be a title.
Even saying "Guru Usability Must Die" would be more accurate.
But ironically, Chris uses Jakob's own dogmatic and extreme titling style.
I guess they'd both say the same thing: "I did it to get noticed. Please
visit my site." [the astute reader might level the same criticism at my
subject line].
Unfortunately, just like "Flash 99% Bad" obscures the message, Chris'
"Usability Must Die" title clouds the fact that he is a big supporter of
usability...just not a fan of gurus, oversimplification, or blind
followers. Unfortunately, his take leans towards the dogmatic and
extreme...so much for calling out those attitudes in others. Hip irony it's
not.
cheers,
Jess
