As a dane I'm not in the habit of coming to the defence of the swedes (old
arch-enemy) - but as a person with a background as a professional educator I
have to admit, that I seriously believe that the swedes would do even better
as compared to the americans - if it were not multiple choice.
The reason for that is simply that multiple choice tests are a much more
common educational tool in american schools than in swedish. There are
fundamental pedagogical differences between scandinavian and american
schools.

If this survey shows anything its not so much a difference in level, as a
difference in outlook. Young americans seems to believe that the USA is much
more important than it is :-). (Dare to think that the USA really had a
population of 1-2 billion people.......)

(And for the curious, and the record - I also took the test - and I did
better than You did ;-))
