[Sigia-l] lenses

We've all seen mapping software's use of Zoom function to change the context
of what is presented. In more sophisticated geographic information system
software, developers control context by using a legend where users can
toggle on and off layers of data. Most people are aware of how these tools
are used in mapping applications.

A clever IA could probably come up with a tool that utilizes a mapping
analogy for other, nonspatial datasets. For example, Zoom could be used to
define the level of hierarchy in a categorical system (ie. search a
particular department/section, the whole site or the whole web). Not a
particularly clever example, but it is getting late...I'll try to think
about data layers later another time.
