> If IA is to be heard and respected at the highest levels it must have
a voice...But, the collective voice will not rise up out of the masses
of practice, knowledge and good intentions that exist in the IA
community. We have to make it happen--role up our sleeves and put some
hours in.

I guess what I don't understand is the HOW of this. How, other than
being a semi-official collective body, will AIFIA accomplish this that
is different than what is already being done through the channels we
already have available? Is AIFIA going to send a lobbying group to
Washington and the chambers of commerce in each city in America?

We already have books, conferences, the protection of umbrella groups
like ASIS&T, great sources of collective knowledge like Boxes and
Arrows, and gurus like Jakob and Don to help spread the word to the CEOs
of the world--not to mention those of us doing the work every day and
improving web sites and applications who evangelize UCD and the design
process seemingly every day. How will the resources of AIFIA be
utilized?
