As any of these disciplines, I would expect a strategist to have some
knowledge of UI design, technology, *all* the aspects around building a
successful website. But I would also expect them to have the sense to
realize those things are better developed by specialists. It's the T
model of skills: very deep in one area but very wide in all other areas.
I as an IA won't be telling an engineer how to develop his object model,
or a visual designer how to incorporate brand guidelines, but I know
just enough about these issues and how they affect IA that I can at
least talk to them. A strategist coming up with wireframes sounds like a
mistake if you have people available who specialise in IA/UI design.
Unless he is brilliant in more than one area - I suspect very few people
are. (I'm certainly not)
