I understand you are attached to the way you do things, the way you have
it. (it's best to keep old hat in secret closet)

 I'm simply suggesting the up 'n' down motion is disturbing to the point
that a behavioral advantage occurs from developing the other way. If the
content was a sensitive e-commerce product list, say luxury items for
instance, then the horizontal scroll is much more deliberate, it's
slower, very deliberate, (with the standard UIs) so that appreciation
rides along with the discovery.

In fact, I'm amazed more developers don't control their scroll-speeds.

Absolutely. Why do we always have to do it your way? I want a turn! We
should carry our UI's around with us, like a quick assortment of masks,
(many handles), or maybe a single morphing UI, like a secret-disguise,
we could rush into phone-booths (like-matrix getting helicopter-UI), or
apply on command.

A timeline is about time. Luxury is about time. It takes time to get
going. Allow the customer time to experience the products. You can tell
a story, if you have time, whatever pleasure.
 
Vertical is too much. I like the carousel.
