Just to let the record straight, there are only a handful of people who
vociferously denigrate virtually anything I say here. That's entirely OK
with me. This is a public forum and people can say whatever they want. I
answer posts in tone they were directed at me. I'm sorry if this offends
others, but I'm unlikely to change in that regard.

I should also mention that I get countless emails privately from individuals
on this list (many of whom lurkers) who specifically ask me to continue a
particular debate or thank me for saying what needed to be said or for
standing up for a notion they share, etc.

Where I come from, a rigorous debate is part of the daily regimen of healthy
living. C. Wodtke tells me librarians are 'nice' people and aren't used to
this :-)
