To build off of Ziya's idea here, what about?

*I use my phone line to connect
*I pay extra from either my cable or phone provider for faster service
to my home
*I primarily connect from the office over our internal network

You aren't getting the details, but you are explaining things in
non-technical terms that most will understand.

I think if you said "T1" or "DSL" to most people they would be very lost
even in the US. But if you attempt to describe the situation a bit more
they might get it.
