Glad to hear of a success story! I do just want to clarify that I think SOME of
the blame goes to librarians. We had many of these solutions early on but were
not out there promoting them. Now is a great time for more articles like
Marcia's. We can promote ourselves as the "clean up crew" for the mess caused by
the early phases of Internet development.

Also, I have tried to sell myself as both a librarian and an IA (I have a / in
my title) and it has worked pretty well for me.

When she says, "it has been an article of faith in the Internet culture that
librarians have nothing to contribute to this new age." I don't only blame
the
whatever the "Internet culture" is. Some of the blame must go to librarians
who
have done a terrible job marketing their unique skills.

- I must also agree that it a fab article and I think that the powers that
be here could take heed. However, I have been lucky in being able to apply
the essence of this article in the redevelopment of the Internet site here.
BUT I had to fight, scream, yell and jump and down to be heard. It was a
hard slog and it is not over yet!

With regards to blame going to librarians, I have discovered that the IT
industry associates itself with fast-paced glamour. The stereotypical
"librarian" doesn't fit into this world as I've been told many times. So I
now go as an Information Architect, never mention my quals and never, ever
mention the word libarary! Sad state of affairs but it works. Having said
all this, it was with great relief that Interwoven(the supplier of our new
CMS) think that Librarians are the ants pants and this did help my cause.
