Happy holidays everybody.
I'm leaving in two hours for a few days of vacationing, but I want to reply
to Christinas post.
I may not grasp your subtle touch, so I need to make it clear to myself!
It's not off-topic.
It's right on target.
It's about abuse of authority.
We're all authorities - when we're with clients, when we "do the
classification thing" - (as one recent client put it to me) - and only our
peers can challenge us in certain ways. We need to stay calm, and not just
follow suit. We need to take a stand (probably a different one each of us) -
and know what we think of seach-engine censorship, fixing the usability
test, selling software that hasn't been build yet as standard software,
talking/painting over inadequacies in the interface, working for clients
that You don't feel much for, and on and on and on.....
And You ask:
>Do you think a new year resolution might be for us all to try empathy. To
give up name-calling, baiting, mockery, infighting and instead use our
energy and skill to listen and engage in dialog?
<
Empathy is a good idea. Making up your mind is a good idea.
Maybe Iraq has been invaded by the time i get back from my vacation. Maybe
it's called for. Maybe we havn't seen any real evidence. Maybe we just had
so much media coverage that we think the authorities of some countries have
to be right - just because they said it so many times.
I don't know. I just can't make up my mind.
But I do feel empaty - with those people who are going to die there - and
with their families.
It's a hard call.
Gunnar
PS: If this causes a stirrup - I'll be back in a few days.
