As I understand it your monitor refresh rate must be set as a multiple
of your mains frequency (50Hz Europe, 60Hz US) otherwise there will be
a ficker, imperceptable or otherwsie, that will hinder reading and will
give you eyestrain and headaches much quicker (because the flickering of
the lights will be out of sync with the flickering of the monitor IIRC).

So 100Hz may be ok for the Europe but for the US anything under 120
will suck.
