Dear ASIST IA Summit 2003 arrangement committee,

On behalf of myself (but probably also others who live in Europe or
the Asia/Pacific region), I’m startled to find that the next ASIST-IA
conference is scheduled to be held in Portland, Oregon. This is a
remarkably inconvenient venue for international travellers since it
involves a separate domestic flight. In fact, this afternoon, my
travel agent quoted a price that was 34% higher than that for an
equivalent flight to Seattle (from Copenhagen, Denmark, either direct
or via London).

Granted, Portland (http://www.portlandairportpdx.com/) is an
international airport. However, the airport’s *international* status
seems to be based solely on the arrival of two United/AirBC flights
from Vancouver. Considering all the major international-hub venues in
the US (Atlanta, Seattle, LA, Chicago, NYC etc.), Portland seems a
remarkably user UNfriendly solution.

In other words, not only do you want me to download the Flash
plug-in, you want me to pay for it, too. I beg you to reconsider.
Alternatively, I will expect a program that is 34% better than last
year's.

Cheers,
Eric
