If you read just one book on writing, make it "On writing well" by William 
Zinsser. It shows you how to write well, which is probably the most 
important component of a useful information-based site.

Then you can ignore the usability pundits screeching about making your 
writing more "usable". As if bullets and short paragraphs can fix 
badly-written copy.

Zinsser was extolling the virtues of a simple style of writing long before 
the Internet became mainstream, and certainly before Crawford Killian. ;)
