The University of Michigan School of Information (UMSI) invites applicants
for the U-M President's Postdoctoral Fellowship Program (PPFP) (
http://presidentspostdoc.umich.edu/index.php#). Faculty at UMSI have a
successful record of providing a nurturing and productive postdoctoral
experience for President's Postdoctoral Fellows. “The University seeks
applicants whose research, teaching, and service will contribute to
diversity and equal opportunity in higher education. The program is
particularly interested in scholars with the potential to bring to their
research and undergraduate teaching the critical perspective that comes
from their non-traditional educational background or understanding of the
experiences of groups historically underrepresented in higher education”.

In keeping with the PPFP program, UMSI is interested in future colleagues
who are in STEM areas (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics),
especially computer science (e.g., human-computer interaction, data
analytics, computational social science) as well as economics and political
science. The position will not require teaching while holding the post-doc
position, but we would like the candidate to have teaching experience
and/or to demonstrate potential for excellence in the classroom.

*Job Summary*
The successful candidate engages in research interests that complement our
faculty expertise in such areas as computer-supported cooperative work;
incentive-centered design; Internet-scale data, network and text analysis;
digital curation; community informatics;  social computing; information
seeking, sharing and use; and health informatics. We are especially
interested in qualified applicants whose research addresses important
social problems, opportunities, and questions in these areas.

The mission of the School of Information is to create and share knowledge
to help people use information -- with technology -- to build a better
world. A successful candidate will be committed to, and will directly
contribute to our goal of being the best research and teaching institution
for the understanding and design of information and its technologies in
service of people and society.

The School is home to vibrant research and teaching programs, with 59 core
faculty, and nearly 850 students. We offer four degrees: a Ph.D., a Master
of Science in Information, a Master of Health Informatics, and a Bachelor
of Science in Information.

Founded in 1817, the University of Michigan has a long and distinguished
history as one of the first public universities in the nation. It is one of

*Required Qualifications*

   - Ph.D. in an area such as information, computer science, engineering,
   communication, or related fields
   - Excellent written and oral communication skills
   - Demonstrated potential for high scholarly impact
   - Evidence of successful classroom teaching experience (as a student or
   professional)
   - A strong commitment to interdisciplinary research and cultural
   diversity
   - Ability to travel to attend/present at conferences and/or research
   meetings

   - Thesis abstract - one page;
   - Research Proposal - 700-1,000 words (not including references and
   citations);

   through your academic career;

   - Three (3) writing samples;
   - Research Statement;
   - Teaching statement
