Beth: Be careful at two points: What public are you aiming at ? The
"general public" you and your friends recognize tends to be people who
recognize you, and this can become narrower as you learn more. Put it
differently, the broader group will become more and more superficial in
what they consider as "knowing", unless you show them otherwise.. The
second point is what does it mean to be professional ? How can you
learn, to study the client so as to use your own judgment, and surprise
them by providing services which they find useful, even when they had no
idea how to ask the right questions. The details will differ in every
profession, but it involves a certain humility and is very much a matter
of attitude.
