ASIST 2002 James M. Cretsos Award Winner

Suzanne L. Allard has been selected as the 2002 winner of the James M.
Cretsos Leadership Award which recognizes new ASIST members who have
demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities in the society. Suzie Allard
is a doctoral candidate at the University of Kentucky who joined ASIST in
1999. In that short time she has made significant contributions to both
chapters and SIGs and has achieved a visibility in the society that is rare

in such a new member.

Suzie has played a leadership role in the University of Kentucky student
chapter where she has recruited speakers for chapter meetings and provided
a program on "Communication skills for new information professionals." She
has also participated in activities of the Southern Ohio Chapter, including

serving as a featured speaker on the topic of digital libraries. Suzie has
been a leader in establishing the ASIST SIG/DL (Digital Libraries) serving
as Chair, moderating the new SIG's listserve, and providing content for its

web page. She has also organized and moderated SIG/DL sessions for annual
meetings. She served as a judge for SIG/III's paper contest for authors
from developing countries and provided assistance to authors which included

doing PowerPoint slides for one winner and delivering the paper for another

who was unable to attend the annual meeting to present. Suzie also has
expertise in use of focus groups and she has generously contributed those
skills to ASIST by leading focus groups to gather information on societal
concerns.

One of the letter writers supporting Suzie's nomination for this award
observed that she "is enthusiastic, energetic, thoughtful, hard-working,
caring, and focused. She has a remarkable talent for leadership." ASIST is
pleased to recognize that leadership by naming Suzie Allard as the winner
of the 2002 James M. Cretsos Leadership Award.

The 2002 James M. Cretsos Award Jury included Janet Arth, Deborah Barreau,
Steve Hardin, and Thomas Terrell and was chaired by Julie Hurd.
