Fw: [Sigcrit-l] Re: Web page for SIG CRIT, etc.

Thanks, Marija. Sure, at least I can design something like this. I'm
checking with Vicki Gregory (new head of SIGS) on what is the best way to
do
this. I would assume that we don't have direct access to server space at
ASIST, so it would probably be best to mount this locally (at Wayne State
or
wherever a web master is--any volunteers??) with a link from ASIST. The
ASIST web site could act as an initial welcome page or we could set it up
as
sort of a reflector site. I'll wait to hear from her and then pass on her
response across the List.
The original statement of purpose for CRIT (Critical Information Theory)
was:
SIG-CRIT investigates conceptual issues in information science and studies
using philosophical, historiographical, rhetorical, social, and cultural
approaches within a broad, interdisciplinary framework of "critical
theory."
The purpose of this SIG is to bring together researchers in these areas, to
create connections between various research agendas and national
traditions,
and to create an intellectually deeper and socially richer
interdisciplinary
dialogue between information science and other fields in the social and
human sciences.
Do we want to keep this, change this? Are we happy with "Critical
Information Theory"? (We could just stay with "CRIT" as a somewhat
mysterious acronym)?
Could you outline the exact items that you--or anyone else--may want on
this
web site? I had raised the possibility of a dictionary and a syllabi
deposit, but maybe these aren't useful. We want things that can be used
rather than wasting time on what won't be. I have doubts about the
usefulness of a dictionary, though I have mixed feelings about a syllabi
deposit.
