Hello Kathryn and SIG-CR community,

I love hearing this history... it is inspiring to know about the foundation for SIG-CR.

This community is important (or can I say vital!), and I would love to see it continue to expand and be inclusive. Is SIG/CR in some sort of danger of being lost for ASIST? That would be really awful, given that KO/classification fundamental component of our every-day lives and information systems...

Some folks may be aware of the current discussion to expand ASIST to an international organization (see the president's message). SIG/CR is has a history of drawing folks from overseas to participate in workshops. There's also potential to forge links with ISKO.

Where does SIG/CR stand in terms of the potential for a workshop next year? I am unclear on who the current president of SIG/CR is. Diane, is this you (on the webpage), or KAthyn, are you new chair?

I am happy to help out and engage in some sort of activity here.

Best wishes, jane

Subject: [sigCR] fun fact for the day about SIG CR

Greetings!

As a member of the 75th anniversary task force, I've been preparing for the upcoming ASIST annual meeting by visiting the ASIST records at the University of Michigan. I've also been collecting information about SIG/CR for a paper I'll be giving at the *Pre-Conference on the History of ASIST and Information Science and Technology Worldwide * http://www.asis.org/asist2012/historyofASIST.html

SIG/CR is one of seven original Special Interest Groups established at the American Documentation Institute on March 3, 1966. At that time, Phyllis Richmond was appointed Chair pro temps and Pauline Atherton was appointed Vice Chair pro temps. Of this original group only SIG/CR and SIG/ES (now
ED) are still alive! It would also be fair to say that part of another original SIG BC (Biological and Chemical Information Systems) still lives on in the virtual SIG BIO (Bioinformatics).

SIG/CR has a long history. Though our numbers are quite small in our 46th year, I'd like to see what we can do to breath new life into this SIG.
Perhaps we could devote the next SIG/CR workshop to looking back and looking forward to planning the next 50 years?
