Great! Then let's have the discussion on the list.

Please send workshop suggestions to the list - I'd personally prefer more formal suggestions with a title and a brief abstract - so we all have a clear idea of what's being proposed, but as the discussion progresses, I'm sure that will be more and more difficult to achieve.

We'll still have a face to face discussion at the end of the 2009 Workshop, and at the SIG meeting on Monday (I was wrong in my earlier email about the date of the SIG meeting)(the meeting is on Monday 1:00-2:00 in "Room A.")

As the organizer of this year's workshop I can say that while I appreciate the tactful consideration, I would not be offended by discussion of next year's workshop. So if anyone prefers a discussion on this list please do not hesitate for that reason. I presume that not everyone will be able to attend this year's workshop - Vancouver, though very attractive, is also an expensive destination from the US. So perhaps a discussion on this list would provide the opportunity for input from a larger group.

For those of you who are coming to Vancouver, I think you have a treat in store. Almost all of the conference papers are in and will appear in due course on dLIST (which will also be nice for those of you not able to attend). They include a range of topics that, in my opinion, are individually interesting and collectively create some very creative synergies. We've also got more posters than ever and the abstracts for them suggest that they, too, will introduce some very innovative ideas. And, in addition, our opening session on Indigenous Knowledge Organization will be particularly boundary-crossing.

Hello All:

In preparation for the upcoming annual meeting, Diane and I wanted to

briefly resurrect the discussion from May regarding the 2010 Workshop.

We've scheduled half an hour at the end of the 2009 Vancouver Workshop

to discuss themes for next year, and we'll also discuss the workshop

theme at our official SIG meeting on Sunday (in Vancouver).

In preparation for all that discussion, could those of you with
specific suggestions for next year's workshop themes please email
Megan privately with the proposal topic, and a very brief (200 word)

abstract clarifying the theme? Please get those suggestions in by
Thursday October 29, and Megan will send out an email on October 30
with a review of all the suggestions that have been received, so the

whole SIG will know what's been submitted. Megan's email =

In asking for private emails, we're not trying to stifle discussion,

but to be respectful of this year's workshop organizers. We would just

feel funny discussing next year's workshop theme before this year's
workshop has happened; at the same time, we believe the discussion
we've scheduled at the 2009 workshop will be more productive if we
have some ideas going into it. If anyone feels our concern is
misplaced, feel free to post suggestions to the list, and they'll be

collected from there.
