Colleagues--
I have been encouraged by Kathryn La Barre of sigcr to send out this
call for participation in an ASIS&T panel in the fall, even though
the time is very late to obtain participants in the matter. I have
it in mind to give a paper on the topic--"A General Approach to
Information Organization" in which I broach the issue of what such a
general approach might be, especially since information organization
has arisen not simply as a technological matter, but as expressions
of traditions of practices and this complicates the matter of
considering some approach to information organization that is
suitably 'general." I attach here an abstract of my topic but
solicit the interest of others of you who might wish to be part of a
panel on the general topic of information organization. Jonathan
Furner of UCLA has volunteered to be the moderator for the panel if
we should be able to get it together in time.
If you wish to participate and have a topic, what will be necessary
to do is to write an abstract and a series of 3 to 5 discussion
questions that would frame the core of what your report, paper, etc.,
will be. You should send the abstract and questions to
Kathryn La Barre <kathryn.labarre at gmail.com>
of sigcr and to myself. Since we have a Monday, February 13th
deadline to work with, this must be done in haste. I regret the
rushed nature of this and the inconvenience.
Many thanks in advance for your consideration of this call.
