Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of Dean Michèle Cloonan and Professor Candy Schwartz,
Coordinator of Doctoral Studies, I am pleased to announce that Simmons
Graduate School of Library and Information Science (GSLIS) is now
accepting applications for the 2008 cohort of the Doctor of Philosophy
program. The Ph.D. program is an innovative, rigorous, and simulating
research-based degree program focused on preparing the next generation
of leaders in library and information science education and practice.
Program details: http://www.simmons.edu/gslis/doctoral
PH.D. / LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SCIENCE (LIS)
Have you been inspired by library and information science? Is your brain
itching to pursue LIS concepts much further? Do you find yourself
convinced that if we knew more we could do things better? Have you
enjoyed helping your colleagues learn and grasp the more challenging
concepts of LIS?
The Ph.D. in Library and Information Science (LIS) emphasizes
scholarship, teaching, and service. It is a sophisticated and inspiring
research degree consisting of coursework and faculty-student
collaboration leading to a dissertation and anticipated careers as
faculty members, researchers, and consultants in the information field.
PH.D. / CONCENTRATION IN MANAGERIAL LEADERSHIP IN THE INFORMATION
PROFESSIONS (MLIP)
Are you a mid to senior level manager with a vision for the future of
libraries? Do you believe that libraries need new management and
leadership strategies to thrive? Have you recognized that experience
conducting effective research and analysis adds significant power and
sophistication to leadership abilities? Do you regularly explore
opportunities to strengthen your leadership skills?
In order to be resilient in today’s atmosphere of complexity and change,
libraries need leaders with unique combinations of intellectual and
interpersonal assets. The GSLIS Ph.D. program focused specifically on
managerial leadership in the information professions (MLIP) is a
flexible, innovative doctoral program that nurtures and strengthens the
intellectual and interpersonal assets of students as working managers,
actively involves leading practitioners in shaping the educational
experience, and generates rigorous research to improve the knowledge
base and the practice of managerial leadership.
