Changing the Questions - Challenging the Candidates

Kris Jacobs, Director, JOBS NOW Coalition

Tuesday, August 22, 5:00 - 6:30 p.m.

2314 University Avenue West

 St. Paul, MN **

Candidates for local, state and federal offices have well-rehearsed answers
to the predictable - but who is there to raise the tough questions about
telecommunications and information policy. How do concerned citizens
formulate the questions that will spur the candidates and voters to think
about access to information, media ownership, and the info age labor force?
What power DO elected officials have in this high tech, big business
environment?

Kris Jacobs knows the venues, the techniques and the issues. As Director of
the JOBS NOW Coalition she has worked on wages and economic development,
strategically harnessing the power of information and technology to change
the minds and hearts of decision-makers. Kris is also a founder and
longtime board member of OMB Watch, one of the nation's most effective
advocates for power of information and for access to high quality public
information.

The challenge for access advocates and professionals is to raise awareness
that information and telecommunications policy is of urgent public concern,
best addressed in a public forum by decision-makers - and candidates - who
understand the issues and listen to the voters.

Sponsored by these organizations:

Telecommunications and Information Policy Roundtable (TIPR)

American Society for Information Science and Technology (ASIST-MN)

Minnesota Coalition on Government Information (MnCOGI)
