Dear KM4Dev Community,
Vol. 2, Issue 2, of the KM4D Journal to be published in September 2006,
will focus on 'Capacity building for networking'. This represents follow-up
on the first issue of the journal on the subject of 'Supporting communities
in development - tools and approaches'. The journal will also take into
account the results of a capacity building workshop on the management of
networks for knowledge sharing that will take place on 25-28 April 2006 in
St. Gallen, Switzerland.
The September issue will be edited by the guest editors Urs Karl Egger,
Georg Buchholz, and Marc Steinlin in combination with chief editor Lucie
Lamoureux. It will address the question of how capacity building for
networking can be ensured and what strategies and approaches of capacity
building are required so that networks can perform better. The emphasis
will be on lessons learnt from both successful and less-successful
experiences.
The issue will include papers from networking practitioners in the South
and North. Of particular interest are recent experiences with capacity
building for knowledge sharing and lessons learned by practitioners who
have been involved in building capacities for networking. We invite
networking practitioners and champions of networks, NGOs, resource centres,
research institutes, think tanks, bilateral and multilateral development
agencies and other organizations working in the context of development
cooperation to propose papers covering topics such as:
- Main challenges for creating and running networks that require further
capacity building
- Preconditions, entry points and strategies for capacity building for
networking
- Experience gained in capacity building for networking
- Specific approaches or tools for capacity building that have or have not
worked
- Effective capacity building practices ensuring the long-term viability of
networks
- Considerations on how much capacity building is needed and who should
provide it
- Specific issues of development cooperation to be considered in capacity
building for networking such as intercultural communication, gender, or
geographical distance
- Reflections on capacity building for South-South networking - networking
in the developing world
- Innovative ways to ensure funding for capacity building for networking
- Future agenda for capacity building for networking
