The GKP International Forum on Cross Sector Partnerships (2006) will be held on
8-9 May 2006 at the Hilton Colombo, Colombo, Sri Lanka. The event is
co-sponsored by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, the
International Development Research Centre, Swedish International Development
Cooperation, and jointly hosted by Young Asia Television, Sarvodaya Shramadana
Movement of Sri Lanka, the Information and Communication Technology Agency of
Sri Lanka, and Practical Action (formerly known as Intermediate Technology
Development Group).
The theme of this year?s forum is "Creating Prosperity through Innovation: ICT
at Work in Development".
The President of Sri Lanka, H.E. Mahinda Rajapaksa; Walter Fust,
Director-General of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (and Chair
of the Executive Committee of the GKP); Geert van der Linden, Vice President,
Knowledge Management and Sustainable Development, Asian Development Bank; Dr.
A.T. Ariyaratne, Founder, Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement of Sri Lanka; Professor
M. S. Swaminathan, Chairman, M S Swaminathan Research Foundation; and Akhtar
Badshah, Senior Director, Community Affairs, Microsoft as well as other
high-profile speakers will grace the International Forum 2006, which focuses on
the multitude of novel ways that information and communications technologies
(ICT) are being applied to improve lives and create prosperity.
Expected at the conference are more than 200 key practitioners in information
and communication technologies for development (ICT4D) from the public,
commercial and civil society sectors from the South Asia region and beyond.
Plenary and breakout sessions will discuss and identify opportunities for
forming cross-sectoral partnerships with international and regional ICT4D
players for mutual benefit, and provide the opportunity for the sharing of
experiences and learning about the innovative use of ICT as tools for
development in the South Asia region and beyond.
