After 45 years of service to the Society -- including eight years as an
elected member of the Board of Directors and twenty two years as its
Parliamentarian and winning the Watson Davis Award, Gerard Platau has
decided to retire from ASIST governance, effective September 1, 2007.

Gerard has been so reliable for so long that we have lost track of members
versed in parliamentary procedure. So we are issuing this general call for
those members who are versed in parliamentary procedures (Roberts Rules of
Order) and who are interested in serving the society in this important
function.

Requirements are simply:
The Society Parliamentarian must be a Member, and must be versed in
parliamentary procedure. The Parliamentarian is appointed by and serves at
the pleasure of the President. The Society Parliamentarian attends:

- all regular and special meetings of the Membership [generally
these take place at the Annual Meeting],

- the Board of Directors [generally two per year plus the Annual
Meeting],

-the Chapter Assembly, and the Special Interest Group Cabinet
[both take place at the Annual], to provide the presiding officers with
procedural counsel. At these meetings, the Society Parliamentarian has no
vote, and has voice only on procedural questions.

The Society Parliamentarian serves on the Constitution and Bylaws Committee
with full voice and vote.

If you know a member who might be interested, please refer or have the
person contact rhill at asis.org
