Dear Chapter Leaders,

I hope many of you will be able to make it to ASIS&T Annual in Austin. It
looks like it will be yet another mind-expanding program - I hope I'm not
dating myself too much by using that term! (Just a reminder, early
registration for the conference ends Sept. 22.)

If you're going, please attend the Chapter Assembly meeting which will be
held: Sunday, Nov. 5 at 8:30 a.m. There is important business to take
care of at this meeting including Chapter Assembly awards, elections, and
leadership recognition.

There is never enough time for discussion at the formal Chapter Assembly
meeting, so we've instituted at the annual conference a Chapter Leaders
Breakfast to continue sharing our experiences and practices.

This year the Chapter Leaders Breakfast will be on Tuesday morning, Nov. 7
at 7 a.m. You are ALL welcome, but please RSVP asap so that we can plan
for the appropriate amount of food. Past attendees can attest to the
quality and abundance of this great breakfast. It's really worth it to get
up so early!

We plan to continue talking about many of the issues which came up during
the conference call this past June.

* What can chapters do about declining membership?
* How to transition student members into regular members?
* How to get people to take on leadership roles locally in chapters?
* Geographic challenges: how does leadership know what's relevant to
membership when distances are great? How to get members to travel
distances to attend meetings?
* Are chapters experiencing competition from active virtual communities
that are low cost or free?
* Burnout.
* If all chapters were disbanded, would you miss them?

ALSO, two requests related to your lists of chapter officers.

1. Please check the ASIS&T website to see who we have currently listed as
your chapter's officers. We need to know now if this is accurate, so that
we create certificates of recognition for the appropriate people, and

2. Please send me the list of your chapter's newly elected officers as
soon as you know who they are. Chapter officer elections should be held 6
weeks before ASIS&T Annual.

Looking forward to seeing you in November!
Beata
