[Asistregional] First ASIST Regional Meeting in 2016

Hello Everyone,

  Happy New Year.

Looking at potential dates for the February 2016 ASIS&T Regional Meeting at Rutgers University, how do folks feel about one of these three:

1) Wednesday, February 17th

2) Friday, February 19th

3) Monday, February 22nd

Folks tend to have fewer meetings on a Friday; same is likely true for classes/courses. Note that Monday, February 15th, is the U.S. federal holiday for 2016, not Feb. 22nd.

A rough structure of the day could be:

9am to 10am - arrival, registration, social mingling

10am to 12noon - program #1

Noon to 1pm - lunch

1-2:30pm - program #2

2:30-2:45pm - break

2:45-4:15 - program #3

optional dinner for those who want to following program #3 (like the dinners we have at the Annual Meetings).

For the three program slots, we could have one theme, or more than one - morning could focus on one area, the afternoon's 2 sessions on a second area (as an example).

    Feedback appreciated. Thanks.

Michael

Hi Heather,

A reduced registration fee for student members is certainly something to aim for, if the SIGs (who become involved) are open to that. And we need to identify which SIG(s) will participate in this program - I have notes from the Annual Meeting in St. Louis that SIGs HLTH & STI had some interest, but my mind says there was a third (perhaps KM?), but I did not write it down. We need to reach out to those SIGs - or send a message to SIG-L and explain the regional programs concept - and ask for involvement - what do you think?

Michael

Michael,

I like the plan and the timing. The SIG/s that you get involved might be able to also put in some funds to allow maybe more students to come with a reduced registration (or even free). Do you think that is a reasonable idea?

Hello Everyone,

Thank you for volunteering to be on this discussion list, which will be used to plan the first - and following - regional ASIS&T meetings.

Some of you, at this point in time, will be observers, and other will be active planners. Note - anyone can chime in at any point, with questions, suggestions, etc. Does not matter if you are an "observer" or not.

Right now, Chirag and I are focusing on a one-day event, to take place in March 2016, at Rutgers University. At this stage of the planning process, we need to:

1. Determine the theme/content of this meeting (we likely need to bring in some SIG leaders for this discussion & planning), and

2. Also reach out to local student chapters. Right now, we have the Rutgers student chapter, and we will soon invite the Pratt one; any other suggestions?

In terms of a start time, we are thinking around 10:00am for program (with a 9-10am registration/arrival/greeting period), ending around 4:00pm, with an option for some to attend dinner together that evening. Not sure which day of the week, but we are focused on a weekday, not a weekend day.

There will be a registration fee - but we'll hold off on determining that until we have the program/theme decided.

What do people think about the overall plan, as well as #1 and #2 above?

    Thanks.

P.S. Thanks Heather for that response to my test email!
