Naresh Agarwal has been tenured and promoted to the rank of Associate
Professor at the School of Library and Information Science (SLIS), Simmons
College, Boston effective July 1, 2015. Naresh's research area is
information behavior and knowledge management - the way people look for
information and the contextual factors that impact their choice of
information sources. He seeks to understand and synthesize the apparent
contradictions in this phenomenon and tries to reconcile multiple
perspectives. His work has been published in journals such as the Journal
of the American Society for Information Science and Technology, the Journal
of Academic Librarianship, Information Research, IFLA Journal, Library
Management, among others, and a large number of conference proceedings.
Naresh teaches courses on technology, web development and information
architecture, evaluation of information services and knowledge management.
He's also co-developing a course on theories of information science and
technology. He's taught in the face-to-face, hybrid and online formats.
During the Provost's reception and celebration on February 18, 2015, Dean
Eileen Abels said about Naresh, "He's so well-rounded. He has a really
strong research agenda. He's a great collaborator, and really, has been a
publishing machine recently for us. He's excellent at teaching, and what's
great about his teaching is that he's innovative, he tries new things, he
is not afraid to experiment in the classroom and then redo something if it
doesn't work." Naresh actively contributes to service at SLIS. He's
spearheading the online component of a new concentration in Information
Science & Technology and is the Chair of the Panel on Adjunct Review and
Recommendation. Naresh has held various leadership positions at ASIS&T -
the Association for Information Science and Technology. He was a member of
its Board of Directors from 2012-2014. He is currently a member of its
Strategic Planning Group, and other committees. Naresh was awarded the
ASIS&T James M. Cretsos Leadership Award in 2012.
