Visual Representation of Search Results in Interactive Information
Retrieval: Challenges and Opportunities

====================================================
Workshop objectives
----------------------------
We aim at building a community to address the growing need of the
development of user interfaces for interactive information retrieval
systems. As the complexity of search results increases, appropriate
and user preferred techniques for understanding the next generation of
search interfaces to support interactions between user and system
becomes critical.
Participation
-----------------
We welcome participants from a broad range of disciplines including
computer science and engineering, information science, interaction
design, psychology, online education, cognitive science and
interactive arts. We invite interdisciplinary submissions from
researchers, designers, practitioners and academics who are interested
in designing and evaluating visualization techniques of interactive
information systems to submit a position paper (up to 4 pages) to this
one day workshop.
Topic
-------
Topics may include but are not limited to: novel visualizations of
search results, new techniques, new paradigms and mental models for
search result interaction, mobile and ubiquitous search interfaces,
spoken interfaces, evaluation methodologies, user-centered experiments
and case studies. As a result of this workshop a community interested
in designing search result visualization techniques better suited for
users in a variety of environments will emerge.
Submission
----------------
We invite position papers up to four pages in Springer LNCS format. We
expect creative and challenging position papers. All papers will be
peer reviewed by the organizers and additional external reviewers as
necessary. Papers will be evaluated based on their alignment with the
workshop goals, the innovative nature of the work, and the potential
to foster stimulating discussion at the workshop.
Please submit a PDF copy of your submission to Xiaojun (Jenny) Yuan at
xyuan at albany.edu and Jacek Gwizdka at interact2013 at gwizdka.com by
***22 May 2013. Participants will be notified by 29 May 2013.
