LAC Group seeks an experienced Library Materials Processing Clerk for a contract position with a University located in Downtown Los Angeles.   This is a 4 month position, starting immediately and ending in July, with a focus on processing library and archival materials.  The Clerk will provide support to the organization, primarily in the areas of materials processing, bar-coding, security tagging, basic cataloging and shelving.  This is a full-time, 40 hour per week position, Monday - Friday, and pays $14.00 per hour.


Responsibilities include and are not limited to:

§  Process library materials of all media formats;

§  Place security targets in books and follow specific procedures for tagging and stamping;

§  Lookup materials in online cataloging system to check record;

§  Print and label each material;

§  Identify problems encountered in routing or processing library materials; then resolve or report those problems;

§  Compile basic statistics on work accomplished daily and/or weekly, or in other increments, as required;

§  Ability to follow standard procedures in the physical processing and routing of incoming and outgoing collections items.



Qualifications:

§  The work requires focused attention to detail and the ability to follow standard procedures in the physical processing and routing of incoming and outgoing collections items;

§  Ability to perform work with attention to detail and follow through to a conclusion;

§  Communicate tactfully with members of the public and with library staff;

§  Pushing/pulling fully loaded book trucks, loading and unloading books and other moving and lifting requirements as needed;

§  1 year relevant work experience;

§  Previous experience using a Library ILS system is preferred;

§  Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills;

§  Ability to problem-solve as appropriate.

§  Experience working with a personal computer and relevant library software;

§  Good verbal and written communication skills;

§  Customer service skills.

§  Ability to train and supervise others.

§  Ability to work independently;
